Updated: Jul 20, 2020

Even if you are not planning on exercising vigorously, it is still important to stretch in order to receive multiple benefits for your body and your mind. Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight. Then, when you call on the muscles for activity, they are weak and unable to extend all the way. That puts you at risk for joint pain, strains, and muscle damage.

Fitness instructors and athletes incorporate stretching into their workouts and stretching into their workouts and stretching is also an important component of injury rehabilitation.

Here is a list of the benefits of implementing stretching into your daily routine:

  • Increase flexibility and range of motion

  • Reduce risk for injuries when used before and after exercise

  • Better posture and alignment

  • Increase blood supply that minimizes soreness after exercise

  • Therapeutic effects that help your mind after a stressed day
